Getting Married in Spain FAQs

Can I legally marry in Spain? – It is only possible to legally marry in Spain if you are either Catholic and wish to marry in a Catholic Church or if you are legally registered as living in Spain and can then have a civil ceremony in your local town hall or occasionally in another venue conducted by the Town Mayor.  There are no exceptions to this at the moment so if you are neither of these, as most of our couples are, we advise you to do the legal bit in the uk in your local registry office.  You can treat this just as getting the licence to making your blessing here legal and you don’t have to exchange rings or vows, keeping these special moments for your blessing ceremony in Spain.  We do have a beautiful little chapel in Marbella where you can hold your blessing if you have always imagined a church wedding rather than a garden wedding.  This would still be a non legal blessing and can be non religious but is only suitable for weddings with up to 60 guests.  We are currently looking for additional ceremony venues for our couples and will be updating this information shortly.

If you are catholic then again this process is a relatively easy one and we have a dedicated church organizer who will deal with all the paperwork for you, contacting priests, arranging translators or if preferred an English speaking priest and also legalizing your marriage certificate with the relevant departments over here.  All our venues have a choice of stunning churches located within white villages or old towns and are within a 15 minute drive so transport for your guests is easily arranged by us.

What are the prices to rent the venues?  Please request our brochure which includes the pricing for each venue

Who normally pays for the venue as my wedding budget isn’t enough to pay for the villa as well as the wedding day package?  This is usually divided equally between the guests staying at the venue for the week although occasionally our couples may pay a larger share (if budget allows!) to reduce the cost of staying at the villa for their guests.

Can I rent the venue for less than one week?  During peak summer months we usually only rent the venues for one week stays.  It may be possible to rent for 3 or 4 nights outside of these months but this has limited availability so please check with us for available dates for this option.  Occasionally it is possible to rent the venues just for the day but this would always be mid week and not on the weekend.

Do I have to use your own suppliers? No, once you book with us we will send you detailed information about the planning process with a selection of our preferred suppliers to choose from.  If none of these are to your liking then you are welcome to choose others. None of our suppliers are set in stone except for our caterers and florist.

Can I make changes to the wedding day package? Yes we can create a bespoke wedding day for you for example should you not want a photographer we would adjust the price accordingly or maybe you have a family member who would marry you, again we would reduce the cost accordingly. The only elements it is not possible to change are the décor & lighting and the planning & Coordination

Do I get a choice of musicians and photographers etc?  Yes when you book we will send you a list of our recommended suppliers who we work with on a regular basis and in our opinion are the best available but you are also more than welcome to source some of your own suppliers if you wish.

Is there a set arrival day?  This isn’t set in stone but is always during the week and not a weekend

Can I book your services still if I find my own venue?  I’m afraid we cannot offer this service at the moment as our commitment has to be to clients booking our own venues.

Do I have to get married on a certain day of the week? No you can marry on any day of the week

Is there a set finish time for music on my wedding day?  At El Cortijo de los Caballos and Casa Del Rio music has to finish at 1am, Cortijo Rosa Blanca music has to finish by 3am. Please do not let the 1am finish time be a deterrent though as you are usually having events the day before and after wedding and we find this makes 1am a very natural finish time for people.

When can I come to view the venues?  During the summer this is only possible on the guest changeover day so this would never be possible during the weekend and only during the week.  During the winter it is usually possible to view the venues on most days.  Please note we require at least a weeks’ notice.

Do I have to view the venue or meet you before I book?  No, a lot of our clients are from America and Australia so it is not possible for them to visit at all before their wedding day and some of our UK clients are unable to get over before booking.  To date no one has ever been disappointed!  The planning can all be done by email and phone if necessary.

How long before my wedding date should I book my venue?  Our properties are usually booked up a minimum of one year in advance and school holidays book up 18-24 months in advance. Please ask us about our availability if you have specific dates.

How close are the nearest shops?  Each venue is located no more than a few minutes’ drive from supermarkets and El Cortijo de los Caballos is within walking distance of some shops and restaurants.

How close is the beach? No more than ten minutes from each venue by car

Is there local accommodation for my other guests?  Yes there is a wide range of local accommodation for your guests, these include 3,4 and 5 star hotels as well as a wide range of self- catering accommodation to suit everyone.  When you book we will send you lots of local information for you and your guests.

How far are the venues from Malaga Airport?  They are between 25 and 50 minutes
